WHAT TYPES OF BIKEPACKS ARE AVAILABLE?
Handlebar Bags
Handlebar bags attach between the brake levers, offering a convenient spot for carrying lightweight but bulky items like sleeping bags or jackets. They come in various sizes, with smaller ones featuring zip closures for easy access. Larger bags might require wide handlebars to avoid interfering with gear shifting and can include roll-top closures for adjustable volume. Opt for waterproof materials to keep contents dry.
Fork Bags
Fork bags are mounted on the bike's fork using bottle cage-style mounts or adaptors, ideal for carrying heavier items due to their low position, which enhances stability. They come in various sizes, expanding your bike's carrying capacity. Choose bags compatible with your fork type—some may not work with carbon forks or forks without mounts.
Cockpit Bags
Cockpit bags, including stem bags and top tube bags, are perfect for items you want to access frequently during rides, such as snacks, a camera, or small tools. Stem bags are typically cylindrical and positioned behind the handlebars, while top tube bags sit along the top tube. Newer gravel bikes often feature mounting bolts for securely attaching these bags.
Frame Packs
Frame bags fit into the triangle of your bike's frame, offering a balanced and aerodynamic way to carry heavier gear, such as tools or food. They are favoured in ultra-distance races for their low centre of gravity. Size and fit depend on your bike's frame dimensions, and custom-fit options are available for non-standard shapes or sizes.
Saddle Packs
Saddle packs attach behind the seat, providing a classic bikepacking look and moderate storage capacity (typically 8-18 litres). They are accessible during stops, making them great for items you might need on the go. Most come with roll-top closures and adjustable straps, ensuring secure and flexible packing. However, space constraints may limit their use on smaller bikes.
