WHAT FLY FISHING ACCESSORIES DO I NEED?
Fly fishing has often been described as an accessory sport, however, I think of it more as an accessory lifestyle. You can be as simple or as spartan as you want, or you can have a tool or gadget for every conceivable situation.
A pair of ‘Nippers’ is a necessity when it comes to clipping the end of your tippet; if you couple them with a pair of ‘forceps’ to retrieve flies from a fish's mouth safely as well as crushing barbs, you have most of your bases covered. You can even combine these two tools for the ultimate ‘scissor-ceps’ which all our guides use on the water every day.
If you have a good tube of flotant to keep your dry flies floating and some split shot to make sure your nymphs sink, you’ll be able to methodically search the water column. Indicators make nymphing easier both in setting depth and detecting a strike.
You might also need ‘retractors’ and ‘zingers’ to keep gear as small as a ‘flotant-holder’ close to hand, or a landing net even a wading staff attached for easy quick use.
Not all accessories are for the fish either, you’ll want a good pair of polarized sunglasses to help spot fish, reduce glare, eyestrain, and protect your eyes from wayward hooks.
Again, our range of accessories is expanding faster than you can tie a nail knot, even with the aid of a ‘3-in-1 nail knot tool’.
